About Us

The Great Southern Wine Producers’ Association began its life as the Mount Barker-Frankland River Wine Producers Association in 1973 and has operated under a board of management structure since 2005.

The board of management is a group of focused wine professionals who work together to further the aspirations of our region through domestic and international marketing and promotion, advocacy, relationship management, and information sharing.

Our Board Members

Nial Twigger Chair Nial has been involved in the wine industry for over 25 years and boasts experience in retail, wholesale, export, business management and strategic planning. He has lived in the Great Southern since 2005 and is currently developing his eponymous brand Twigger Estate.

Steve Hall Vice Chair   Steve Hall is the owner of Rockcliffe Winery in Denmark and a geologist with 30 years of international experience. Steve is active in regional, Australian and international markets and is a proud ambassador for Great Southern wines.

Scott Grieve Member Scott has 10 years experience in the wine industry and currently works for Ferngrove Vineyards across a broad spectrum of sales and marketing areas including communications, e-commerce and digital sales, brand ambassador, trade marketing and sponsorship.

Alex Taylor Member Alex established Poachers Ridge Wines in 1999 and has developed and operated it since then. Before coming to the wine industry Alex had an extensive, executive level career in the international oil and gas industry.

Brian Kent Member Brian is the winemaker at Frankland Estate and adds technical knowledge to the Board. Brian holds a postgraduate degree in Viticulture and Oenology and has been making wine in Frankland River and throughout the world since 2003.

Glen Daniel Member Glen is General Manager of Willoughby Park Wines and the Boston Brewery. Glen has 10 years experience in senior hospitality management and holds a postgraduate qualification in business and finance.

Our Objectives

  • Promote the excellence of Great Southern wines to the public
  • Promote the trade of Great Southern wines on a regional, national and international level
  • Encourage and foster the diversity and quality that the Great Southern offers as a wine tourism destination
  • Promote and participate in joint initiatives between members in achieving the objects of the Association
  • Forge close links with other organisations to further the objects of the Association, including but not limited to regional food, accommodation, and tourism groups
  • Encourage the dissemination and uptake of technical and marketing information to enhance the performance of the Great Southern wine industry
  • Raise money and accept donations to be put towards achieving the objects of the Association including receiving and applying monies from members, sponsors, governments, and other like institutions.
