Update - The 2013 Five Virtues has now sold out! Thanks to all the buyers out there who have supported the Great Southern wine industry. Keep an eye on our blog to see what new and exciting products and promotions are coming from us in late 2017 and 2018.

The 2013 Five Virtues Shiraz is now available. A fine regional Shiraz blended from Shiraz produced in each of our five sub-regions: Albany, Denmark, Frankland River, Mount Barker, and Porongurup.

Tasting notes: Intense aromas of red berries, liquorice and earthy spice. The palate shows great concentration of flavour and elegant structure typical of the region, with integrated French Oak characters and a long savoury finish. Careful cellaring will see the wine develop complexity over the next 10 years.

The 2013 Five Virtues Shiraz is a limited production of 4,200 individually numbered bottles.

A small amount of 2013 Five Virtues Shiraz is available for sale direct to the public at $420 per case ($35 per bottle). Contact the GSWPA via our contact page.

The Original Five Virtues Shiraz

The original Five Virtues project in 2005 was the result of the vision of a group of Great Southern wine producers and associated industry backers, united on a unique project to promote both wine and region.

One huge vessel was created to house 290 litres of super-premium Great Southern Shiraz, christened Five Virtues and bearing a striking black label adorned with the distinctive five stars of the Southern Cross.

A limited production run of just 2000 six-pack cases of collector’s item 750ml bottles was also released.

Five Virtues recognises and celebrates the Great Southern’s greatest strengths - its size, diversity and the people who belong to it.

The name Five Virtues alludes to the five elements that form the Great Southern region: the maritime sub-regions of Albany and Denmark; where the spectacular Southern Ocean pounds an unspoilt coastline of dramatic cliffs, sheltered coves and sweeping sandy bays fringed by pristine forest; and the inland sub-regions of Mount Barker, Porongurup and Frankland River; where rolling pastoral land patchworked with vineyards and olive groves meets ancient granite ranges.

But it also refers to the five schools of thought and beliefs that each sub-region brings to the project: essentially producers and industry bringing the best of their talents and products to unite under one vision, the common cause of promoting their region and capturing its spirit through the creation of a definitive Great Southern Shiraz of outstanding quality.

Five Virtues Shiraz was also produced from the 2008 and 2011 vintages - and sold to much acclaim throughout Australia. The GSWPA look forward to producing more Five Virtues Shiraz from future vintages.
